Glenn Thompson, Otis Daye and Tammy Fox will be co-facilitating a session focused on highlighting and discussing practices that contribute to creating a safe, welcoming school environment where everyone is valued.
This session will be workshop style with lots of conversation and sharing of ideas. All three levels of school will have an opportunity to discuss ideas within your grade levels.TBD

Otis Daye is an educator, equity leader,and community advocate from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and a proud member of theAfrican Nova Scotian community. Inspired by his grandfather, Canadian boxingchampion and human rights activist Delmore “Buddy” Daye, Otis has dedicated hiscareer to advancing equity, inclusion, and human rights in education andcommunities.
Throughout his career, Otis has combinedclassroom teaching, behaviour support, and community engagement to build safeand inclusive school cultures. As the Regional Equity Consultant for theHalifax Regional Centre for Education, he developed the creation of EquityTeams across schools, training educators to identify and respond to incidentsof racism, discrimination, sexual harassment, and misconduct. He also developedthe curriculum for the Educational Leadership Consortium of Nova Scotia and hasprovided professional development and leadership in post-secondary education,including teaching at Saint Mary’s University.
In 2024, Otis was invited to speak at the18th International Human Rights Summit at the United Nations Headquarters inNew York, sharing his expertise on equity in education and strategies forfostering inclusive organizational cultures. That same year, he served for oneyear as Nova Scotia’s Safe Schools Consultant, contributing to the developmentof the province’s new Student Code of Conduct and Safe Schools Strategy, beforereturning to his role with HRCE, supporting over 60,000 students and 10,000 staff.
Outside of education, Otis mentors youth,coaches basketball and soccer, and is an accomplished songwriter and actor. ADuke of Edinburgh Diamond Jubilee Award recipient, he continues to championsafe, inclusive, and compassionate spaces where all learners and communitymembers can thrive.
Tammy Fox is the Principal of Truro Middle School. She has served in administrative roles with the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education (CCRCE) for 14 years, and previously worked across all grade levels in both the French Immersion program and Learning Support.
Tammy believes that collaboration is essential to finding meaningful solutions to complex challenges. Quoting Dr. Peter Liljedahl, “The smartest person in the room is the room,” she embraces collective wisdom and looks forward to co-facilitating a session focused on highlighting and discussing practices that contribute to creating a safe, welcoming school environment where everyone is valued.
Glenn Thompson is the Student Equity Consultant with Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education. Prior to this he was the School Climate and Relational Approach Consultant and a former high school English teacher and department head. Glenn has been responsible for coordinating the implementation of a relational approach within CCRCE working with bus drivers, teachers, administrators, senior management and community. Glenn believes strongly in a restorative approach. His current role allows him to work closely with system leaders and administrators as we attempt to address systemic barriers that exist within our education system. Glenn is committed to student equity and believes that creating conditions for building authentic relationships is the foundation of strong school communities and student achievement.
