My name is Eman El-Batnigi, and I have been with the Maritime Muslim Academy for the past six years. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Microbiology from Dalhousie University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. I am also IB certified and IGCSE trained.
With over 24 years of teaching experience and six years in school administration, I have served as Head of Science Department, Vice Principal, and currently as School Principal for the past two years. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students and teachers from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which has deeply shaped my understanding of inclusive education.
When I arrived in Canada in 1995, I experienced firsthand the warmth, empathy, and sense of belonging extended by the Canadian community—an experience that continues to inspire my work in helping schools build welcoming environments for all.
How can school leaders move beyond awareness to action in creating communities where every student and family truly feels they belong?
In this interactive session, Eman El-Batnigi, Principal of Maritime Muslim Academy, shares practical frameworks and real-life examples from a diverse school context. Participants will explore the psychology of belonging and learn how empathy-driven leadership decisions can transform school climate. Through reflection, collaboration, and a guided empathy self-assessment, attendees will leave with strategies to strengthen inclusion practices, build trust with newcomer families, and nurture an authentic sense of belonging across their schools.
